Description
Learn the secrets of cooking authentic Indonesian food at the well known Waoreng Djawa at Hotel Tugu, a unique museum hotel located in Canggu.
Known for its most authentic, best traditional Indonesian food in Bali and Java, the Waoreng Djawa is a place where you will experience cooking in a traditional Balinese kitchen using traditional methods and original ingredients.
The classes are held by Iboe Soelastri, an elderly woman and the chef at Tugu Hotel, who began learning to cook from her grandmother when she was just 4 years old.
You begin by choosing 5 dishes from Iboe Solastri's collection of Indonesian dishes. You are then taken to visit a traditional Balinese market (optional) where the ingredients for your cooking class with be purchased. Upon return to Hotel Tugu, class starts and you get to enjoy your creation for lunch.
Waoreng Djawa, where the class is held, is a very authentic traditional humble street side eatery that represents the way the Javanese and Balinese dined since the era of the Majapahit Kingdom, between the 1500s and the beginning of the 19th century. Traditional steamers on wood-fire terracotta stoves in the open kitchen, oil lamps and stone grinders. After you finish cooking, you will experience a traditional lunch like nowhere else, dining on antique wooden benches, eating with bare hands and accompanied by soothing Javanese music.
