The woodcarving craft is a skill learned from an early age within the family. They use traditional methods and basic tools such as axes and chisels made localy. The carvings are turned into table lamps, coffee tables or make attractive displays on their own. If you plan to make a purchase, be prepared to ship it back home via a courier service or if you settle for a smaller purchase, you could pack it in your luggage or carry it onboard.

Celuk Silversmiths Village
Celuk is famous for its goldsmiths and silversmiths. If you are looking for good quality silver jewelry, this is where you will find it. Most of the residents of Celuk have some sort of production facility. The more established ones will have large showrooms displaying a wide range of gold and silver jewelry. Most of them are suppliers for other shops and much of the silver jewelry you see being sold in Ubud in fact comes from Celuk.

Tegallalang Village
Tegallalang is well known for its pretty ricefields. You can take photos from the road where there are many craft shops selling decorative wood crafts.

Ubud Town
Ubud is the main town in Gianyar. Known as Bali's art and cultural center, it is also home to the Ubud Royal Family. Here you will be able to visit the Ubud Palace, make bargain purchases at Ubud market and visit the Monkey Forest. There are many art shops and well known museums here with important art collections from all over the region. You will be able to shop for attractive home decor items, jewelry, coconut crafts and much more.

Kintamani
Kintamani is a popular lookout point for Mount Batur and its caldera lake. It is in fact one of the villages on the rim of Batur Volcano. From your lookout point at Kintamani, you can look into the crater where you'll see the lava fields and Mt Batur cone as well as Lake Batur.

KlungKlung
KlungKlung is a small district located between Gianyar and Karangasem. The name means "beauty" or "happiness". It is not very well known but this town is rich in history. Prior to 1651, the Kings of KlungKlung ruled Bali from their capital town of Gelgel about 4km south of KlungKlung. A revolt by the then Prime Minister of the area caused the Royal family to flee and it wasn't until some 30 years later that a new and smaller Kingdom was set up in KlungKlung and this became the seat of Balinese royalty and from which the Balinese royalty of today descends from. The Kerta Gosa was the Royal Court of Justice built on the 18th century. The paintings on the ceilings depict the punishments awaiting those who have committed crimes and the rewards for those who are fortunate to enter the gates of heaven. The Bale Kambang in the back is a pavilion which appears to float over the lily pond which is sits above. The ceiling here is richly painted in the distinctive "Kamasan" style which are based on wayang puppets.
