Lake Bratan
Lake Bratan is a scenic lake located in Bedugul. Not many tourists come this way as there are fewer hotels and not that many shops or restaurants in the area. However a visit to Lake Bratan would make an enjoyable excursion to the mountainous areas of Bali, especially if you are already halfway there staying in Ubud town, this will not be too long a drive.
The lake itself is the caldera of the extinct Mount Bratan. Tourists stop by here to view the scenic lake with its temple, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, temple of the lake goddess revered as a source of fertility.
The temple complex was built in 1633 by the king of Mengwi and consists of 4 compounds, two of which are completely surrounded by water. The main temple complex Pura Teratai Bang features a 7 tiered meru dedicated to Brahma. A smaller temple is dedicated to Dewi Uma Bhogawati, the godess of food and drink.
