Things to do in Bali with Young Kids

With all the outdoor activities one can do in Bali, it is a great place to take your entire family to. Moreover most tour operators welcome children on their activities and offer family packages and discounted prices for very young children. Here are a few activities you might like to consider.
Green Camp
Send your children for a day to the Green Camp where for $65, they will enjoy a fun filled day playing games, making kites, learning various Balinese crafts, go on a river exploration or a treasure hunt. This program is for children aged 5 - 11 years old. For teenagers 12 - 17 years old, a $75 full day Adventure program where mountain biking, trekking through rice paddies, river rafting and flying fox are just a few of the exciting things they will do. Overnight programs are available up to 5 nights.
Bali Elephant Safari Park
The Elephant Safari Park in Taro is a massive entertainment park with a museum, elephant shows, elephant rides and you can even stay there at their own safari lodge.
The elephant park is a place to learn all about elephants and you and your family will be able to interact with elephants during your visit there.
You can purchase a package to visit the Elephant Safari Park only or an Elephant Safari ride package which also includes entry into the park and lunch.
The Family Package price includes entry for 2 adults and up to 4 children under 12 yrs old.
Horseriding
You can go horse riding along Batu Belig beach which is in Kerobokan-Seminyak on the south west coast of Bali. The Umalas Equestrian Resort does 30 minute rice field rides and 2 hour beach horse rides. Children 8 years and above are welcome. There are also Beginner Lunge Lessons that last 30 minutse.
Quad or Buggy Driving
This activity is suitable for children 7 years old and above. You can drive a quad or buggy with your child through Balinese villages, passing rice fields and crossing jungle.
Tours start from Payangan area, which is a rural area in the central part of Bali, not so far away from Ubud, and between 1 hour and 1 hour fifteen minutes driving from the popular tourist destinations of Kuta, Nusa Dua and Sanur. The ATV 4 wheelers are user friendly and easy to handle.
Balinese Dance Class for Children
Your children can sign up for Balinese dance classes as well as Gamelan classes. You will easily located such places if you are staying in Ubud. The Agung Rai Museum of Art offers cultural classes for children and adults and your children can attend free Balinese dance classes if you stay at the ARMA Resort in Ubud.
Watch a Balinese Dance Performance
These again are easily accessible if you are staying in Ubud village, Bali’s art and cultural centre. While each dance tells a story from the Ramayana, children will be easily engaged by the colourful costumes and animated actions.
Nature Walk in Ubud Rice fields
An easy activity you can do is to go on a walk through the padi fields surrounding Ubud. Some hotels in Ubud offer daily morning walks or you can register for a tour. You can get a map of Ubud or get a guide book from a bookshop in Ubud and follow the routes.
Walk in the Monkey Forest in Ubud
Another easy activity that the children will love is a walk through the Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud. The forest is nice and cool and there is a temple there as well. Hold on tight to your belongings or put them away in a backpack.
Herons at Petulu Village near Ubud
An interesting activity for children and adults as well might be to visit the white heron sanctuary about 5 km from Ubud. The herons head home to their nests in the trees of Petulu village about 6pm so you should arrive must earlier and wear a hat. There is no fixed entry fee but you may be asked for a donation.
Ayung River Rafting
In the Ayung River Rafting experience, children as young as 5 years old are allowed to participate. Raft down the scenic Ayung river under the guidance of expert guides and in safety equipped Avon rafts. Lunch is provided after the rafting trip.
Sanur Beach
Sanur on the east coast of Bali is an ideal location for families with children. Unlike Kuta, which has a strong surf, the beach at Sanur is sheltered from the surf by a coral reef creating a lazy lagoon and making it ideal for snorkelling.
Waterbom
This is a fun park with 15 waterslides located in Kuta. There are waterslides, speed slides, Euro bungy, wall climbing, pools that you can relax in and more. It is a great fun for the kids and adults. www.waterbom.com . You may also like to stay in a hotel in Bali with a water slide.
Canyon tubing
Canyon tubing is a fun activity for the whole family. Float down a stream in an inflatable tube. Children from 7 yrs old can participate in this. Younger children can go tandem with a parent. This is a morning activity and lunch is provided at the end.
Bali Butterfly Park
Visit the Bali Butterfly Park where you can see stick insects, leaf insects and giant moths. The park is located in Tabanan and you might want to visit the Bali Butterfly Park if you are staying in Ubud and spend about an hour there.
Bali Bird Park
At the Bali Bird park, you will be able to view the largest and finest collection of Indonesian birds in the world plus fantastic birds from Africa & South America. Encompassing two hectares of botanical landscape, the park provides sanctuary to almost 1000 birds of 250 different species. Go on a full day outing and combine your trip to Bali Bird Park with visits to nearby villages.
